Rocket League - a persuasive text.

Rocket League is amazing

Rocket League is a game on the Xbox, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC. It is football but with cars. You can jump, boost and even flip! The goal of the game is to score the most goals.

In Rocket League, you can play with friends and even against them. You can compete against other players to climb ranks and become the best. Ranks are based on level of skill. In Rocket League you can play 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 with friends.

In Rocket League, you can customise your car how you want it with different colours, boosts, hats, decals and even the actual base car! When you score, you can get a signature goal explosion, so when you score, the ball explodes to your goal explosion.

Rocket League is gonna be one of two games leading up to the Tokyo Olympics for a prize pool of $250,000! The other game leading up to the Olympics is Street Fighter. So, if you climb your way to the top, you can compete for your country.

I think a lot more people should play Rocket League as it is a great game as you can enjoy football in a different way to normal. Rocket League is just £16 and has a review of 4.3 with most of them being 5 star reviews.

The greatest love story!

Romeo and Juliet

In class, we have been reading Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.
This book is all about two teenagers who fall in love from two rival families.
At school, we have been writing character descriptions and setting the scene of Verona, Italy where this play is set. Later on in the story, we find that the two young lovers are willing to die for each other as when Romeo gets banned from Verona, Juliet takes a sleeping potion and fakes her death, Romeo comes and takes poison just to be with her. When she realises Friar Lawrence’s plan failed, which was to send a letter to Romeo to explain everything and sneak Juliet out of Verona, she feels the need to use Romeo’s dagger and take her life as well. I think this is a great story and should be shared with more people as well.

PE at Red Rose

PE at Red Rose primary school is different to some others. We have lots of PE teachers how are:
Mrs Jennings, Mrs Beevers, Miss Sweeney , Mrs Sweet and Mrs Laws and PE coaches that kindly come to have fun with us.

PE is one of the fun subjects that most people like. Some people that come from different schools say,”PE here is better than my old school!” I like it when people think Red Rose is a good place to be. All the PE teachers like to have fun with us and that’s what I love.

PE is one of our strongest subjects in Red Rose. We even have an allocated PE uniform!
Lucky us!!! It is

  • White polo top
  • Black bottoms
  • Our very own PE jumper!

Saving Energy

You may not know this but you will do after reading this. If you switch off your plugs when you are not using them , you could save up to £40 a year . Can you help us try to save the planet one step at a time? Try to switch off as much lights as you can (but not when you can not  see what you are doing ) .

Always have a light in your bathroom because if you can not see you might  slip  and hit your head and hurt yourself a lot.
Try not to  have hot baths  because you would be wasting a lot of water and energy from your boiler , so try to have as many showers  as you can .
Try to change your light bulbs to something that uses less electricity, like 10 watt.
When you have your heating on and if it has a timer on always put the timer on for about 2 hours and have it off for half an hour .
Open as many curtains and blinds as you can to let in natural light. So if you have enough money put in as many double glazed windows as you can .
Turn off  your water when you are shaving , brushing your teeth and washing your hands .
Take short showers like 3 minutes you can save upto £30 a year.
Wash your laundry in colder water , it can save you £22 a year.
Hang your laundry on a washing line .

Some great ways to save energy.

Some of our recent school trips.

Concert at the Sage

On the 11th December, some of year 6 went to the Sage. This visit happens every year.

We go there to sing. We prepared every Thursday. The school has Mrs Flynn ( from Park View ) come in to teach us songs. This time we had to sing 4 songs : Hark the herald angels sing, Do you hear what I hear, Please don’t buy me a… and a Child in a manger born.

There were choirs, solos, instrumental songs and schools singing. There was even dancing. The solos were amazing. The instruments were piano, drums, violins, flutes, guitars, trumpets and trombones. WOW!
The schools leave at 14:45 to head to the Sage.
The performance starts at 19:30 and ends at about  22:00.

Our visit to Nissan

What we did!
On our trip to Nissan, we did different activities and found out a lot of cool stuff. We even learned how a Juke was made!

The clothes and boots they wear at Nissan were a little big for Noah when he tried them on! The activities we did were hammered metal, drilled bolts, picked out 3 of each screw with our eyes closed and timed, tried on clothes (that were big for us) and tried to pick out pegs with a time limit.

We also watched a video on how to make a Juke while we all had delicious cookies and refreshing juice!

About the training factory!
Inside the training factory there were a few workers doing their jobs. There was a mannequin that Noah, Rachel, Kasey and I thought was real but when we found that it was a mannequin, we were quite embarrassed.

Next, we raced each other (I raced Noah) in a formula one racing competition, using compressed air, and (sadly) Noah won. I got a shock when I pressed the button!

Then, we saw a robot and it was sneezing, drawing, talking and it even wrote ‘Hi Angus!’ and drew a car!

Making the Monozukuri Caravan
After lunch, we went into another room and got into our teams. First, we made some designs with LEGO in pairs and I worked with Chris. We looked at a map of the building and when we saw how big the car park was we were shocked! After that we did a production line and this time I was with Chris, Amelia , Olivia, Finlay and Ben.

Once we finished the caravan, the lady who worked there announced the winner of the best Monozukuri caravan design. It was Rachel, and the runner up,who was Amelia. Congratulations winners!

After we all said thank you and goodbye they handed us a Monozukuri caravan bag, which came with a notebook, a highlighter, a pen, a pencil, a ruler, a couple felt tips and a pencil case that you can colour in.

A few thoughts on football

In football, there are a lot of people who get bullied because of their colour in football. Even super famous footballers, like Ian Wright. Some still get bullied today. Even though Raheem Sterling and Ian Wright were so good at football, they still got bullied by team's fans. They still got bullied by other footballers that weren't as good as him.

The first black captain was Viv Anderson and he played for Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, Arsenal, Sheffield United and, of course, England.

Girls footballers usually get bullied because they are a girl. Every girl that is black gets bullied more than guys do. Girls should have an equal right in football.
If you show racism you will get a red card.
If you show racism, you need to stop now.

Football is only fun if you don't get bullied for your color. You might find it fun but they don't. There Mam or Dad were probably black, so they are black or they were born in a different color. DON'T BLAME THEM!

Also you might of been black and you might of got bullied, you wouldn't like it. Sometimes managers are black, but that doesn't change anything.
Amelia

On the England football team, there is a player called Stirling and there was a game against Bulgaria. In the crowd they were saying horrible and racist words and the same happened with Tammy Abraham.  Chelsea talking about them being monkeys and should get a pitch banning just because they’re black. When they were versing the team and the other team was getting beat they got out of control and

It is no coincidence that in arguably the most popular sport there is racism. Fans can be really offensive to opposition players that are a different ethnic background and different religion get racially abused by supporters.
Cole

This player had a monkey chant done to him, the person got arrested.

Next, we have the England vs Bulgaria match, the Bulgarian fans chanted racist chants and slurs to England’s multi-cultural team. The England fans fought back for their side to stop the racism. At one point, the match had to be stopped but resumed after they demanded the fans stopped.

Racism is a big issue in not just football
Chris

Girls Football - Why I like it.

Here at Red Rose School football isn’t just for boys it’s for girls to. Girls football was really fun because our team got on so well and we all tried our best. Sometimes we lost; sometimes we won but we still did our best. On our first matches, we lost all of the games.  On our second matches, we drew one and lost the other two, then on our third and last matches we won two and drew one. We were getting better.

Our current situation

What is the coronavirus?

The coronavirus, also known as COVID-19 is a new illness that can cause damaged lungs and airways. The virus originated in Wuhan in China and has spread to many other countries: Italy, Spain, United kingdom etc. There are more than 300,000 cases and about 9,000 deaths in the world at the moment but those numbers will definitely continue to rise.

What are the symptoms?

There are many symptoms for the coronavirus, all of them being very similar to a flu or a cold. Even though the symptoms don't sound too bad this virus is still very dangerous and in some cases it can be deadly. The coronavirus symptoms are a cough, a cold, high temperature/ fever and/or a shortness of breath. If you have any of these symptoms you should self-isolate and call 111.

How to stop the spread.

To slow down/stop the spread of this new virus you should avoid gatherings with around 500 or more people, wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, use hand sanitiser, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue, when you cough or sneeze cover it with your elbow or your hands, avoid contact with people who have the virus, try to avoid all types of public passport if possible and try to work at home.
What not to do.

Most people know what not to do but just in case here are the details, don't touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean, do not have visitors to your home which is sadly including family, friends etc. The coronavirus is quite new so there are not any current medicines to cure you from this virus so stay alert if you have any of the symptoms.

My first 3 days learning at home.

Day 1 - 21/03/2020
Today was a bit weird because I usually play football with my team, the Dazzlers, and then go to my dance class but because I’m self isolating I couldn’t . So instead I painted my dad's shed, made a Mother’s Day card, did some arts and craft and best of all my dad bought me a football agility kit - it’s amazing.

Day 2 - 22/03/2020
After breakfast, me and my dad did some football training in the garden. I practiced my shooting and penalty shots. I then painted some pebbles with characters from the movie Moana. My favourites hei-hei.

Day 3 - 23/03/2020
I faced timed Amelia this morning to talk about the blog and our school work. We both tuned into YouTube and completed the Joe Wicks PE lesson. It was fun. I’ve done my English and Maths today and I’m now designing a henna tattoo #disney!

Some of our hobbies

Scootering

I started scootering at the age of 4 or 5, and I used to get teenagers to show me how to drop in,but the one thing I did not have was the guts to do so.  The first time I used a scooter all I did,was just play around my driveway.  Until, a couple of days ago, my mam, me and my friend went to a skate park in Gateshead called DYNAMIX.  From ten o’clock until twelve o’clock it’s inexperienced riders, then after that it’s for experienced riders.

First, you put 1 quarter of the scooter over the edge of the quarter pipe [ like on the picture].Then, put either your right foot or left foot on the metal bar lean forward, and fly.

Goals
  • Tail whips.
  • Back flips.
  • Front flips.
  • 360s.
  • 180s.
All of these are very extreme,do not try without being told how.
These are next level for me!

Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu

Where it’s originally from?
BJJ also known as Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu is from Japan.A student of Kano’s Misto Maeda emigrated from Japan to Brazil in 1914.He was assisted by a local politician named George Gracie, whose father had also been an immigrant, hailing originally from Scotland. As a token of his gratitude, Maeda taught Jiu Jitsu to George’s son Carlos Gracie. Carlos later shared his knowledge with

My Dog, Alfie

My dog is named Alfie, he is a Labradoodle, which is a cross with a Labrador and a poodle. My Mam and Dad got me him in 2018 Christmas, I wanted a dog for so long and i finally got Alfrado (that's what I call him for fun sometimes.) His hair colour is blonde a bit like mine, his ears are quite small but they look big because there is so much hair over them, there so big and puffy! The hair over the top is crimped so he looks very cute. His paws are very big like lion paws, he also has brown eyes and a big bushy  tail. He wears a red and blue tartan collar which I chose for him because he suits red and it makes him look smart.

Alfies personality is playful, silly and funny. He loves attention and will happily sleep anywhere. One of his favourite things to do is to annoy other dogs an get them to chase him. He also loves to play hide 'n seek, when I hide and my family say “wheres Miya” he immediately knows to look for me!

Miya

Horse Riding

Every year people come together and ride horse around Annan which is in Scotland it is called riding of the marches.

People dress in red are the Corrnet  and Cornet Lass.
The chase first happened in 1845 and it still happens every year.

Some of our favourite books.

Harry Potter

Harry Potter was first created by JK Rowling when she was on a train and got a tissue and started writing on ideas for a book. Most book shop’s rejected her writing and would not publish it as a book  but soon she got it accepted and it sold world wide.

Her first book was called Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Suddenly, she got movies made and there were eight in total the Philosopher’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, Half Blood Prince, Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Deathly Hallows part 2 .

My favourite character is Luna and my worst character is Umbridge . The reason why is because Sirius was a great god-father and Umbridge made a scar on his hand which said i must not tell lies . She comes  in the Order Of The Phoenix

Maisie

Northern Lights

I’ve loved this book so far it’s just so intriguing, you can hardly put it down. I’ve read up to part 2 (chapter 10).It’s about a little girl called Lyra Belacqua who lives half-wild and carefree amongst the scholars of Jordan college (Oxford). She doesn’t go to school she’s just taught here and there from the scholars. She climbs on the roof of the college with her daemon (Pantalaimon) and The kitchen boy Rodger.

It’s an incredible book with 2 more books (each one a new volume) called The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. There’s even a series called His Dark Materials every Sunday 8pm till 9pm,It's a fiction book with lots of ups and downs and breath holding moments.

It’s quite random because Lyra thought her father was her uncle and her parents were killed in an airship accident. However, they evidently weren’t. Lyra’s mum was and is the creator of a group of people nicknamed the ‘Gobblers’. Lyra left Jordan college to go to the north with a woman called Mrs Coulter (Lyra’s Mother),but They went to London before the north.Once Lyra found out who Mrs Coulter really was she ran away…(no surprise)she bumped into some Gyptians who were traveling to free all the children from the Gobblers.

Lyra set of with them and quickly found out masses about her past.Lyra also told them about her father imprisoned by giant armoured bears. It was then she  started to figure out how to work the alethiometer. All she knew was it told the truth but didn’t have a clue how to use it.Her and an old man called Farder Coram started to work out the meanings and then started to ask it questions. They asked serious questions like how is their spy getting on? The answer was horrific. He was dead. Then a man who was with the spy came back terribly injured and said that the spy was dead, and seconds later he died.

Science Fair at Red Rose

Last Wednesday, 11th March, the year 5 and year 6 children put on a fantastic science fair for Galaxy, Armstrong and Apollo, who are our brilliant year 3 and 4 children. In our amazing science fair, we had many experiments including - How to separate sand and salt, if different aged children had more or less sensitive taste buds, the testing of Isaac Newton's colour spectrum and many more fabulous experiments.

Our year 5 and 6 children did a brilliant job preparing for the science fair and amazingly they did it all by themselves in groups at home. Mr Ross, our fabulous science teacher, set this task, in order to challenge us and show the lower Key Stage 2 children just how much science can be part of some things you didn't even know!

All in all it was an amazing morning and I know that we all hope that some of the children will be inspired by all of the learning we have done in our great classes!
