Restorative Approach

Recently, at Red Rose Primary School, we introduced a new approach to help us if a disagreement occurs. It is called the Restorative Approach. If a teacher sees someone arguing they will ask each child their side of the story and they ask them five questions each here is one of them: “ What were you feeling?” This has improved most of our behaviour outside and in the classroom.
Here are all the questions:

  • What happened?
  • What were you thinking when it happened?
  • What were you feeling when it happened?
  • Who has been affected? And how?
  • What needs to happen now?
  • What do you need to do now to make it fair or better?

A year six pupil said “People don't start arguments as much because they know they can't get out of it as easily.”

This approach has helped to show people how to approach disagreements.
